We are here to make positive changes at our schools.
We are advocating for less screens and ed-tech in schools, caregiver (+teacher, principal) opt outs, and paper options for instruction and assessments.
Why though?!
Parent of a 1st grader
"As a parent of a 1st grade student, I was unhappy with the amount of time my Kindegartener was spending on an ipad. I would see his Lightspeed Report include YouTube video links, which we never allow at home.
The more neighbors and friends I spoke with, the more I realized that it wasnt just me... everyone is seeing our kids spending way too much time on school-issued devices. And that was before you start hearing the horror stories of the older kids' computer use, access to inappropriate sites, screen addictive behavior..."
More coming soon...
Fall 2026
Virginia and Fairfax County is moving in the right direction.
Virginia has banned cell phones in school! Thank goodness.
Fairfax County removed Ipads from Kindegarten classrooms... and promptly reversed themselves tp make an 'allowance' for about 1/3 of the kids to get back on for reading intervention services they didnt want to pay for teacher instruction for. Our neighbors in Arlington were able to get reading intervention through parents, but Fairfax chose not to. Yet!
The FCPS School Board also voted to allow a parent opt out of Lexia and STMath instruction, and we now await that implementation.
