We are all former Hill staffers, doctors, professional advocates in healthcare and education policy, tech industry executives and senior leadership who are all worrying about our kids’ overexposure of screens and Ed-tech at schools. A few kick-butt teachers too!
We cover all of Virginia, but most of us live and focus on Fairfax County, FCPS.
Given our professional backgrounds, is it any wonder we looked around, saw a bunch of volunteer groups modeled after 501(c)3s but not a whole lot of people engaged in the political arena and thought we’d do what we do best - advocate for what’s most important to us and jump in.
There are a lot of other amazing advocacy groups in Virginia and in Fairfax.
In Fairfax we partner and work closely with orgs like DMV Unplugged, The Balance Project, Schools Beyond Screens, as well as Parents for Intentional Tech Use FCPS (PIT).
On the Virginia state side we work hand in hand (and share co-leads) with Distraction Free School’s Virginia (DFS.) DFS does amazing work across the state of Virginia in advocating against over reliance on technology and unlimited screen use in elementary schools, working for a state wide 1:1 device opt out.
Check out DMV Unplugged for thoughtful advocacy across county lines. PIT has build up an active community in Fairfax, if that is your interest.
All are great resources, but none are (to date) focused on the policy and also the politicians, and their elections, in a way we are.
Actually, no! We are not a legal PAC that is collecting money from our donors to then distribute as a PAC.
We are currently just volunteers who are donating to those elected officials and candidates who share our values, and we are working together as a like minded group of individuals.
We are a new org (long time advocates, new coalition) so we haven’t made it official… yet?
If you also want to get Ed tech out of our schools in Fairfax County or Virginia more broadly, and have PAC experience and feel strongly one way or another, please reach out! We are very open to input and always looking for more experts to partner with.
Importantly, we are all a small-ish community and are happy to point folks in the right direction to match your advocacy goals if we can, so get in touch!
